Cero Residuos

ZERO-WASTE

By practicing the principles of a zero-waste philosophy, where waste is reduced and/or re-introduced as a primary resource, we were able to reduce our waste to 36% of our previous levels, and transform 64% of generated waste into resources.

From 2016 to 2018, we have collaborated with the Environmental Education A.C. implementing the “Zero Waste in My School” program, working with local schools and youth groups throughout the region.

During the 2016-2017 cycle, we worked with David Vivas Romero Elementary school in Mérida, Yucatán.

From 2017-2018, we worked with Pedro Pablo Echeverría Elementary School in Sotuta, Yucatán.

During 2019 we dedicated the Lu’um Puksi’ik’al program to the issue of waste management and we are currently monitoring the environmental education program for waste management at Pedro Pablo Gómez Elementary.

Our goal is to share tools in all Sotuta schools and in other institutions to achieve optimal waste management and, in the near future, reduce waste to the municipal dump to zero.
